That a Air Starter?
This is another great engine that EMD has made. P.S. I am aware of the noise problem that they have along with a fragile cab when crashing in the front, however those don’t count, cause the way I see a bad trains if the engine is unreliable meaning that Mechanically Unreliable would be when the parts were off too fast(Example: GE P30CH pooch) while operationally Unreliable would mean that the engine breaks down during operations, highly or dangerously Unstable or both, or their rushed. (Example:EMD SD50) (Example: LMS fury) (Example: Alco C855)

The loud noice when you hear it start up is the air flowing in the turbine to start it up. Yes you are thinking correctly, it has a air starter. And not a normal electric starter.

@@pranavghantasala6808 Well, i'm not really an expert, but if i were to throw a wild random guess, its probably an alarm saying that engine is starting up for anyone that is around since it is pretty much very loud. The camera dosen't seem to pick it up tho
@@pranavghantasala6808 The loud buzzer before the prime mover cranks up is the air pressure alarm,all that does is go off when the air pressure for the brakes are below minimum required numbers,and it will stop ringing once the air brakes build up enough pressure while the locomotive is idling. All locomotives have loud buzzers when the air brakes are below pressure to make it known that it's unsafe to let the train move until it builds up air pressure.If it's not moving already. One museum that I'm a member for,we have a 1954 Alco RS-4-TC-1A from the military that also has one.It goes off when the electrical components activate,but once the prime mover is turned on,it stops ringing.Sometimes when the air tanks aren't drained,it won't need to sound off for a few minutes once the unit is running because there still is enough air pressure,or more,that hasn't been released from last time,even though I do it any time I've operated it after a day's use to prevent a build up of moisture.Ours is obviously much more smaller than most EMD locomotives,being a switcher,so it never takes long to build up and also doesn't require as much as a more massive locomotive.
